Great going.... Keep it Up !!
Since u have started this blog... i thought of bringing up some issue which would yield a good discussion...and invite fresh ideas from others as well...
Is the Myanmar govt. right in denying its people Aid from the West in the current crisis situation? What do u feel about it? Would be nice to know ur thoughts on the same.

You ARE what you think you are :) said...

I think to deny any humanitarian help for such a volume of mankind in a situation where their own resources are not sufficient is inhuman. If the govt is doing it, it is a very political standpoint loaded with vested political interests.

Well although sentimentally considered ... ur view is justified as most ppl reading it would think. But i beg to differ on this JO !!
I think the govt. of every country knows whats best for its ppl. In this case too the Myanmar govt. has denied help from any country... coz it would know how it would tackle its problem at home with its available resources. Ppl in Burma were suffering even before this cyclone happened... but was anyone bothered about it till this happened??
If ppl of that country feel that their govt. is unjustified in doing what it is doing.... then why dont they revolt? You might remember the dialogue from the movie Rang De Basanti..."No country is perfect... its the people of that country who have to make it perfect". So the Burmese need to do something to take stock of the situation if they feel their govt. is unjust in its act. Who are we sitting here to comment on this.

U are assuming that the Govt. of a country always thinks "best" for them. Just think again, did what Musharraf govt do for Pak the "best" thing for their people? There are undercurrents and revolts by the people that happen but till they happen repeatedly and on a large scale as in Pakistan the world community cannot see. SO we do not know the ground realities of Burma.Media has not been covering it very actively and its a natural calamity.People have been attacked unaware how do we suppose they will revolt while dying. "Govts. thinking what is best for their people" is a very naive statement in today's world sweetheart :)But there are no two ways about NOT helping people in distress, its how seemingly logically the govt. in power argues it to the world outside.

What were those people doing before the cyclone struck? Happy in their lives earning their bread? Had they understood and acted on the fact that their government is not the best and had they done something to overthrow it, now when the cyclone struck they would have had someone more responsible in power to 'better serve' them in this hour of need. Some months back the monks in Burma had revolted and were killed in large numbers by the government. Students came out in their support. But then the movement died down. Why? because of lack of mass support from the common man. These very people had then stayed away. So you reap what you sow (not in terms of cyclone but in terms of government and its reaction).
P.S.: For us sitting in the comforts of our home it is easy to point out that someone somewhere should go on the street, revolt and get hit by a bullet. maybe I would have been among them too, to stay away and deal with my own day to day problems in life. But the realization is there - you have to act yourself to ensure you get what you rightfully deserve and this is definitely within your reach. Don't wait for some outsider to come and do that for you.
